Positions in the Court of Ronain:

Tier One Positions

These positions are directly responsible to the king and sometimes each other for overlapping responsibilities

  • Castellan (Open for app, noble only age 25+): Responsible for all domestic staff, including Marshal, Constable and Sheriff, works closely with Lord Steward
  • Lord Steward (Rion): Oversight of administration of Justice and Appointment of positions, works with Castellan closely
  • Court Garrison (Daithi): Oversees Defenses, chief of resources (land/game/commoners), reports to Castellan but has lots of leeway and direct authority
  • Chaplains (2 positions, Bishop: Open, Fili: Nuala): The Bishop of Colmac represents Christianity in the court and castle of Ronain; Fili of the Court represents Celtic pagans in the court and castle of Ronain
  • Kapelmaster (Open for app, noble only): Responsible for events/activities/organizing of gatherings including feasts and tourneys, and assigning personal as needed from Field Marshals at tournaments to extra cooks for large feasts. Bringing in musicians and entertainers

Tier Two Positions

These positions generally report directly to a tier one positions, and amongst themselves where responsibilities overlap, but otherwise have a great deal of authority in carrying out their assignments

  • Bards (3 positons open): Historians, storytellers, collectors of myth and personal/master (possibly Gobae) entertainers, musicians; reports to the Kapelmaster
  • Brehon (Bromaigh): Keeper of the law, magistrate, consults with steward, Castellan, constable and sheriff, keeper of law/history of law, poet; reports to Lord Steward
  • Chamberlain (Fiora): Responsible for the running of the court and household - all 'expenditures' made by any individual on behalf of the crown would need the approval of the Chamberlain; reports to Lord Steward
  • Constable (Kerrigan): direct enforcer of the household, internal affairs, and foot solders in time of war (militia/commoner), and disputes amongst lords/ladies in the castle itself; reports to Castellan
  • Heralds (1 positon open, Eibhlin): bards/fili/scribes, responsible to organize, announce and referee the contestants at a tournament (not during the contest); reports to the Kapelmaster
  • Intendant (Muadhan): Organizes entertainment for the court, music, theatre, or otherwise - no troupe, act, fool, performing bard gets in without going through the Intendant, reports to the Kapelmaster
  • * Aide (Open, noble only): Assists the Intendant in the organization of the entertainment for the court, music and works hand in hand with both Intendant and Kapelmaster.
  • Marshal (Seamus): oversight of military forces (household knights, war efforts), directly in charge of cavalry (knights); Reports to Castellan
  • Master Huntsmen (Loinnir): Organize hunts, but protector of game throughout the land, works with Warden; report to Court Garrison
    • Huntsmen (Several positions, noble only): Assists on the hunts, reports to the Master Huntsman.
  • Midach Gobae (Kaitlyn): doctor/physician/chief medical office of the court of Ronain, steward of medicine in Kidare; reports to Court Garrison
  • Mistress of the Wardrobe (Open, noble only): Responsible for queens clothes and jewelry, akin to the senior Lady-in-Waiting.
  • Ovates (2 positions open): Layleaders under the Fili of Court, performs direct services for household members and staff of the Celtic pagan faith
  • Priests (2 positions, 2 open): Layleaders under the Bishop of Colmac, these priests operate in the court itself for Christians, performing services/mass
  • Quartermaster (Traigh): Trade and stock, responsible for dealing with stock of the castle and its trade beyond simple finances (Treasurer and Chamberlain), while working with the two finance officers as need, this position falls under the realm of the Court Garrison.
  • Sheriff (Fintan): Responsible for Ronain's sept/holding, chiefly the walled city around the castle, including disputes between lords/ladies while in his realms, oversight of the court and maintaining order when nobles gather for court; reports to Castellan
  • Seneschal (Open, noble only): Works with Marshal, Constable and Sheriff along with Steward and Brehons, oversees detainment of prisoners, foreign and domestic, to administer sentences passed by those responsible parties. Seneshal is the Keeper of Keys for the castle; reports to Castellan
  • Treasurer (Open, noble only.): Responsible for all revenue, as established through contracts with the Princes and their lords, all income due as fealty to the crown; reports to Lord Steward
  • Warden (Locryn): Protector/steward of the lands of Kidare; reports to Court Garrison

Tier Three Positions

These positions are more numerous and as needed, they either report to one of the higher positions in the court/castle or to any individual they may be assigned too.

  • Acolytes: Servants of either faith, just above apprentice, not quite journeymen; liturgical scribes, young poets, trusted in the courts of Ronain; take direction from Priests/Ovates or the Chaplains, as appropriate by faith.
  • Aides: Serves the Midach. Cares for wounded and sees to long term care as needed.
  • Court Messengers: Delivers any official message, dictate, word from the court (and all positions with official business) to intended parties; personal messages are handled by other messengers but all official messages must be delivered by a court messenger when acting on behalf of the crown.
  • Deputies (3 positions, noble only, 1 open); these individuals are full time operatives that assist the sheriff, should more bodies be needed, the sheriff may acquire the assistance of household knights.
  • Field Marshals (noble only): Nobles assigned as judges during contests and tournaments, including sporting events and hurling; reports to heralds during tournaments, ultimately the Kapelmaster is responsible for field marshals
  • Gobae: masters of their chosen profession and crafts, the highest such professionals in all of Kidare, from stable master to master blacksmith to head cook, these are generally commoners; they report to either the Court Garrison who oversees physical bodies (resource - field hands, wall builders, etc) or the Castellan, dependent on positions
  • Handmaidens: Servant to Ladies, usually commoner, more tasks assigned to the handmaidens than a Lady in Waiting, many are assigned under a Lady in Waiting; report to assigned individual, falls under Kapelmaster
    • Maelys — handmaiden to Lady Essylt
  • Household Knights (noble only): All lords and princes are obligated to supply bodies to the forces of Ronain, including knights. These individuals typically report to the Marshal, but may be assigned to other individuals as needed (to help apprehend nobles, to guard messengers or ambassadors, to scout for bandits by the warden, etc.)

  • Ladies in Waiting (Noble only): Servant to the Queen Maeve mhic Tristan Ui Colmac or other ladies, young ladies learning to be proper noble ladies; assigned to individuals as needed, falls under Kapelmaster
  • Scribes: Any keeper of knowledge, written or oral, typically under those positions of a more political bend (brehon, chamberlain, treasurer, ambassadors), though any court position or individual that needs records kept could have a scribe.

Misc.

For characters not assigned to the courts, they only need designate 'Noble' or 'Commoner' as their position.

  • Princes (5, one per clan): Unopen at this time, but the head of each clan (male characters only);

Ambassadors (Currently not available)

  • Ambassadors (4, one per fifth): Not open at this time, but envoy and representative of Ronain to other Fifths (female characters only)

Also not available to app. Ronain, the High King, Maeve, his Queen, any of his family or any figures of Arthurian legend, ie: Niamh, Lancelot, Merlin, Guinevere, Morholt, Isolde, Tristan. Etc.
